If there is one thing I could go back and tell my 19-year-old self, it would be: “Stop spending so much money on pizza and beer (love, your waist), and invest in a high-end primer (love, your face).” Primer has become a must-have in my beauty collection. At one time, I could have three or four different primers in rotation at once. As much as I love a deal, I will splurge on primer time and time again. My top five contenders are:

Benefit The POREfessional – Goodbye pores, hello stay all day makeup! Benefit’s POREfessional is a hard primer to beat. It doesn’t clog your pores, but instead camouflages them. All while keeping your makeup in place all day long.

Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Primer – Lights, camera, action! If you’re expecting to take a lot of photos (aka selfies #noshame), prime with this guy. The Photo Finish Primer helps even out redness, and preps your skin for a day filled with flashes and photos.

bareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer – This primer is definitely a close second in my heart to Benefit’s POREfessional. The consistency of this primer leaves your skin feeling like a baby’s bottom, and applying your foundation is a breeze as well.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer – If you’re willing to make a serious splurge, I swear by this primer. It is different than any primer I have ever used. It’s a pure white, silky formula that only requires a very small amount to cover the entire face. Each time I use this primer with a full coverage foundation, I can see and feel the difference.
